The New and the Old

Having lunch at the River Cafe several days before Christmas with my wife, we were happy to see the rising World Trade Center dominating the city skyline. To our great surprise, the newly minted FDNY Fire Boat, the Three Forty Three, came cruising past the New World Trade Center. With the ship's interior steel fashioned from pieces of the Original World Trade Center, the new and the old were present together. HAPPY NEW YEAR to all!!!

Stony Brook Football in first win of 2011

The SBU Seawolves notched their first win of the season Saturday in a Homecoming game against Lafayette. After a first half of defensive play resulting in a half time tie at 6, the Seawolves went with their running game and played very hard defense to come out on top 37-20. During play, Wide Receiver Kevin Norrell almost captures this pass from Michael Coulter but was denied by a good defender.

Later in the half, Ryan Haber went up to capture this interception and thwart a Lafayette drive in the red zone.

In the last photo, Miguel Maysonet scored four TDs including this one where he vaulted over a defender to score.

Ward Melville Lacrosse Advances

Ward Melville's Lacrosse team, seeded no 2, advanced to the quarterfinals on Friday where they will likely lay Smithtown West, the 3rd seed. Hosting the game on their field, the APtriots defeated Northport 12-9. Tyler Hegarty, no 22, scored five goals in leading their scoring. The Patriots showed some rustiness after a long layoff from games. They will have to play better lacrosse Friday to advance to the County Finals.
